Les jardins du cap à l'Aigle
The land where the Jardins du cap à
l’Aigle are located was donated to the Cap-à-l’Aigle Village des
Lilas corporation by the municipality of La Malbaie. The property,
part of one of the first land grants accorded by Lord Malcolm
Fraser in 1794, and the only one still intact today, is comprised
of
19 hectares of riverfront land to the east of La Malbaie. The
Duchesne land, as it would later come to be known in honour of the
original owners, has proven to be an ideal site for a large
garden. Intersected by Route 138 and Saint-Raphaël Street it
descends the mountain towards the river in stages offering some
amazing views of the Saint-Lawrence River. A stream, where a
sawmill once stood adjacent, flows downward forming an entrancing
waterfall under the cover of the woods.
The Duchesne Pavilion and the barn
were integrated into the gardens as a reception area, as well as a
site for expositions, activities and relaxation.
• Conferences and craft and
horticulture workshops are regularly presented.
• A boutique offers local arts and crafts products.
• A café bar and terrace are available to welcome visitors.
The portion situated north of Route
138 will be landscaped in a later phase of the development.
